My Posts about the Jamestown Trip and Celebration

I will probably post more pictures and thoughts about Jamestown, so stay tuned. For now, here is a summary of my trip with links, in chronological order, to every post in which I describe what took place. I will add to this post and change the time stamp to keep this one above every other (future) post about Jamestown:

Our trip started with a visit to Grandma Hayden on Saturday morning, June 9.

We visited my cousin Megan and her husband Derek in Louisville, KY on Saturday evening.

We drove for many hours on Sunday, June 10, and arrived in Williamsburg that evening.

We saw some friends and got lost driving back to the hotel on Sunday evening.

On Monday morning, June 11, we listened to speakers, enjoyed fifes and a drummer, and watched a reenactment along the James River.

We had lunch in Williamsburg with the Friedrich Ladies and Loomis Brothers on Monday.

Next, we enjoyed a tour of Colonial Williamsburg with Dan Ford and Michael Billings.

Monday evening at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, we listened to speakers, saw the Video Jamestown: Ancient Landmark, Modern Battleground, and heard an excellent message by Paul Jehle about the significance of 1606.

Tuesday morning, June 12, Col. John Eidsmoe presented a lecture about Seven Cities that contributed to the development of the Common Law and its arrival in the New World at Jamestown.

Also on Tuesday morning, Paul Jehle gave a message on the significance of 1607.

We enjoyed seeing many friends throughout the week, and here are a few pictures from Tuesday.

Paul Jehle gave us an excellent tour of Jamestown on Tuesday.

We saw the John Smith Memorial at Jamestown on Tuesday.

We also saw the Jamestown Tercentennial Monument from 1907 on Tuesday.

On Tuesday evening, Marshall Foster presented about the impact of the Bible on America, specifically the Geneva Study Bible that was brought to Jamestown.

We met Gary DeMar and spent time with friends at the Marriott on Tuesday evening.

This one isn't very exciting, just a quick update on Wednesday before I posted pics of our balloon rides, boat tour, country store visit, and tour of Yorktown.

Here are pics from the balloon rides, bumping into Adam and Amy McManus, sighting a "Read Rushdoony" bumper sticker, and chatting with the Seppi Family whose van contained the bumper sticker.

We saw an old country store and pondered its 114-year existence, in light of no Wal-Marts in the area.

Here are pics from the James River Boat Tour on Wednesday morning.

We enjoyed a tour of Yorktown on Wednesday afternoon with the excellent historian Bill Potter.

Geoff Botkin delivered one of the best messages I heard during the week on Thursday morning.

Our family enjoyed a lunch and a visit with the Servens and other friends at Colonial Williamsburg on Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday evening, Gary DeMar presented a great message about our need to press onward instead of retreating.

We saw Patrick Henry on Thursday afternoon at Colonial Williamsburg and again at the Marriott.

On Friday morning, June 15, at Fort Pocahontas, we heard speeches about the five significant contributions of the Jamestown settlement: 1) The Vision of Gospel Evangelism, 2) The Coming of the Word of God, 3) Houses of Worship, 4) The Bible-based Common Law, and 5) Republican Representative Government. We also enjoyed the music of Charlie Zahm.

One of the presenters was Col. John Eidsmoe, and he gave a compact, brilliant summary of the Christian Common Law.

We had a great time with the Simpson Family on Friday at lunch. We also saw Mrs. Howard Phillips and her son Sam.

Ron Maxwell addressed the crowd at Fort Pocahontas on Friday afternoon.

Next, Dr. Morecraft presented a magnificent oration on the significance of monuments and landmarks.

After Dr. Morecraft's message, the Jamestown Children's Memorial was dedicated.

On Friday evening, Jonathan Falwell stood in for his Father Jerry and delivered an inspiring message.

Finally, we heard Dr. Peter Lillback splendidly defend George Washington's Christianity.

On Saturday, June 16, at Fort Pocahontas, we enjoyed speakers, music, reenactments, fellowship -- the list goes on.

The Thomas Family won the JT400 Treasure Hunt on Saturday!

After the worship service at Fort Pocahontas on Sunday morning, our family ventured to Staunton for a visit with our friends at Mountain Musings, the Girotti Family.

After our visit to the Girotti's, we made it to the Cincinnati area on Monday evening, June 18.

We visited the AIG Creation Museum on Tuesday, June 19, and really, really liked it.

We made it home to Wichita on Wednesday, June 20.

I put up this post with links, links, and links on Friday, June 22.

Newsweek commented on the Jamestown Celebration, and I commented on Newsweek's comment.

Thanks for posting this, Caleb. It was a very helpful overview for me. All the days seemed to run together as we were progressing through them during the week.

I may be referring back to this post as I type up my own thoughts from the excursion (hopefully tomorrow).

Have a restful (and cool) night's sleep!

Your Sis, Lydia

You're welcome, Lyd. I'll look forward to reading your posts.

And you're welcome, as well, Katherine (and Huber Family). Our family enjoyed seeing you and Nikkae there last week. Not sure when it will work, but I hope we can make it down to the SA area sometime in the not too distant future; we'll let you know.
